Mother 1+2 was released on June 20th, 2003 in Japan.
Long been known as the bringer of hope to the EarthBound community, this is the first game released since EarthBound for the Super Nintendo almost 8 years before. Mother 3 been cancelled years before the community was disjointed about the future of the series. Maybe believed that EarthBound would be the last of the wonderful games. Since its release, expectations that Mother 3 would, in some form, be released someday. Nintendo's own commercial, found here, tells us to keep hope alive that there will be a third game in the series sooner than anyone thought. Expectations grew high for quite a while, that was almost a year ago hope has gone for many of us since then, Nintendo has either dropped the project... again, or is keeping a very tight lid on it. A year in software development time is not a lot, keep in mind it took over a year to make EarthBound ready for the US, and almost three to make the game itself.
With that said, I hope that we as a community we will keep the hope alive. Since its release, starmen.net has done an incredible job of making absolutely sure that Nintendo Of America KNOWS we want this game. Sending art books, a community wide call-in (dubbed PK Call'n) and countless enevlope art mail-ins, if NOA doesn't know we want this game, I really wonder if they have any sense at all. To them I say thank you! If Mother 1+2 is ever released, I can truly say it will be only because of the efforts of many!
If you are interested, there are a variety of available importers, when the game was released I quickly scoured the net and ordered it off of eBay and was lucky enough to get a Mr. Saturn Keychain with my order. Though it's quite unlikely that you'll be able to find a Mr. Saturn Keychain packaged with the game, You will probobly be able to order it from eBay, if you please.
