Hello and welcome to a new series of articles dedicated to the lives of the animals of the world you live in. I'm Ami your tour guide. I hope you enjoy our adventures together and please, as you read the article pause and use your imagination to see and feel the environment I describe. Imagine what types of plants and animals I might see there the types of lighting and other things.
My adventures began after arriving in Lumine Hall. It is a dark dusty place with incandescent mold growing along the walls. Vegetation is somewhat rare, but enough to support the ecosystem. Fungus is quite common, although few animals in the cave eat it. It's a fairly gloomy place to visit I must say, but the mold provides enough light for me to see, which I'm thankful for. The cave is amply populated with different types of species.
I saw many different types of rare animals in the cave but decided to focus my studies on the Fobby. They are about a foot in height, two feet wide and a half foot long. Their appearance resembles that of a green lemon with two small feet for locomotion. Age expectency is unknown, I was not there long enough to make any precise determinations.
The first thing I discovered is that Fobbies seem to collect in groups. This proves that they have strong social skills perhaps even a sense of community. The second thing I noticed instantly was that they are very timid. Even from far observation they seemed to notice me. When scared they group together and put the smaller among them into the center. This is important for two reasons firstly it gives a very high survivability rate and secondly it ensures the safety of their young which ensures the group lives on. This is more effective than it might seem initially, I noticed that only much larger predators had bravery enough to attack the fobbies in such large numbers.
In terms of attacking potential the fobbies are fairly underpowered, but their large numbers compensate. Most possess the ability to learn psycho kinetic powers, but few can execute them properly. The few that can perform the feat are fairly effective. They move at a rate of about five to seven miles an hour which is about average for a human, but keep in mind that they are much smaller in height and therefore have to move much faster to make up for the size difference.
I noticed that fobbies typically snack on mold and other easy to find foods in the cave that no other animals will eat. I did see one pull out a chocolate bar but he offered it to another animal in the cave, the animal didn't understand and walked away. After that experience it just left the snack on the floor. But... where would a fobby obtain a piece of chocolate? Later exploratory analysis revealed that it was most likely left behind by travelers. They probably took interest in the fobby and offered it a treat or perhaps just left it behind and the ingenious fobby took it.
Much of the Fobby's typical day entails socialization in the group. Since food is beyond plentiful for them, they don't need to devote time to gathering on a daily basis. Feeding takes little time. While their language is obviously undecipherable to me, I did enjoy seeing them chatter away endlessly. I am unsure of whether or not their speech has intelligence behind it, or is analogous to say, birds chirping. There is evidence to suggest a degree of intelligence however, as I described before, a fobby offered a chocolate bar to another animal. That action implies friendliness which implies intelligence.
When not socializing they are avid explorers. This also lends credence to their intelligence. They love to look about endlessly. Even recently born children move about almost constantly. They seem to have a fairly good memory as well. I noticed that those who look for new areas to feed can easily bring back the rest of the group. A large movement of the group is rarely needed, but a real necessity when the situation arises. Children I noticed don't wander far from the group which is natural.
I hope you have enjoyed a look into the world of the Fobbies. I enjoyed my time with them, and near the end of my time there, a small fobby got a bit closer than usual. In a cute voice it uttered some words and moved back. I like to think they might have gotten a bit more used to people in my time there. I hope I get to come back to visit them, it sure was fun. Those little guys are so cute! Take good care and happy reading!
